Lead Alloy

A lead alloy ingot is a refined metal product obtained by combining pure lead with various alloying elements such as antimony, tin, bismuth, calcium, or copper to enhance its mechanical and chemical properties.

These alloys provide greater strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, and thermal stability compared to pure lead, making them ideal for industrial, radiation shielding, battery, and casting applications.

Technical Properties

  • Density: 10.9–11.3 g/cm³
  • Melting Point: 310–330°C (depending on alloy composition)
  • Alloy Elements: Antimony (Sb), Tin (Sn), Bismuth (Bi), Calcium (Ca), Copper (Cu)
  • Hardness: 2–5 times higher than pure lead
  • Corrosion Resistance: Excellent in humid and acidic environments
  • Machinability: Suitable for casting, rolling, and extrusion

Applications of Lead Alloy

1. Radiation Shielding Systems

  • Used in medical, nuclear, and industrial radiation protection systems.
  • Main material for lead sheets, containers, and shielding panels.
  • Ideal for X-ray rooms, nuclear medicine facilities, and laboratory shielding walls.

2. Battery Manufacturing

  • Lead alloy ingots with antimony or calcium are widely used in lead-acid battery grids and electrodes.
  • Provides high conductivity, longer service life, and better resistance to corrosion and fatigue.

3. Casting and Industrial Production

  • Used in the casting of pipes, fittings, and counterweights.
  • Preferred for radiation-proof bricks, balance weights, and mechanical vibration absorbers.
  • Provides stable dimensional accuracy and easy mold release properties.

4. Chemical and Metallurgical Applications

  • Applied in acid-resistant tanks, reactor linings, and lead-based alloys used in the chemical industry.
  • Offers durability and leak protection in corrosive process systems.

5. Eco-Friendly and Recycled Production

  • Lead alloy ingots can be recycled multiple times without losing physical or chemical quality.
  • Helps reduce industrial waste and carbon footprint.
  • Can be produced in RoHS-compliant formulations for safer environmental use.
